The primary role of the Advocates Library is to meet the information needs of members. This is achieved through the acquisition of UK and European Official Publications via purchased subscriptions and utilising our Copyright Privilege for Law Publications.

The Official Publications Collection is an excellent resource of both Primary and Secondary Legislation Publications of the British and European Parliaments.

The Advocates Library has a  large collection of UK legislation, from Scottish acts in Regiam Majestatem (published in 1597) and Acts of King Henry VIII (published in 1551) to the Acts of the Scottish Parliament / Public, general acts available  today. We also have Local, personal and private acts from 1798-. We keep UK Statutory Instruments not Reprinted in Publishers bound volumes and copies of Draft Statutory Instruments.

In addition to this UK Official Publications material we also have legislation from a large number of foreign jurisdictions during colonial periods, as well as some of more recent dates.

The Library is not open to the public. The Advocates Library Online Catalogue contains information on our Official Publications collection; however, some older material may only be recorded on a local card catalogue.
