Library News (RSS) Feeds
The Library is currently piloting some RSS
feeds for library news and the latest publications in the Glasgow ePrints
Service.
Our News (RSS) Feeds
Note: We are using the Orange feed icon for our RSS feeds. This is used
by the Mozilla Firefox browser and has been adopted by Microsoft for
Internet Explorer 7 to indicate a page which contains syndicated content.
It is identical in effect to the orange RSS or XML icons used by other
sites.
What is RSS?
RSS is an acronym commonly used to mean "Really Simple Syndication" and is a format for
distributing news and alerts, referred to as an RSS feed. This feed will usually just
have the title, a url and a brief description of the news item. Users
subscribe to these feeds and the content is delivered to their desktop
when it becomes available.
Many news websites such as the BBC are now using RSS and have RSS icons
on their website for to enable users to subscribe to the latest news
stories.
Where can I find a news reader?
There are a wide range of news reader available for a range of
operating systems. The Library cannot recommend a particular news reader
but the BBC News website and Google both provide links to news readers. If
you use software such as Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird you will
already have a news reader since these both support RSS.
Please note: the Library does not provide support for news
readers.
How to subscribe to our feeds
- Drag the feed icon
next to the content you want to subscribe to into your news reader
