Open Access Week 2009
To celebrate worldwide Open Access Week (19-23 October) we are taking the opportunity to spotlight a number of people within the University who have contributed to the success of Enlighten, Glasgow’s online open access repository.
The aim of Open Access is to make scholarly research freely available online to all who want to read it for the advancement of science and scholarship. Many leading organisations and institutions are supporting open access by developing policies such as Glasgow’s Publications Policy which requires authors to make their research available in Enlighten.
Enlighten is the University’s open access repository, providing access to the details of all research publications and to the full text of these publications where this can be made available. The success and growth of Enlighten would not be possible without the contribution made by people in departments across the University. This week we will highlight just some of the individuals who have been working hard to achieve this.
- Monday, 19th of October - Author of the Most Downloaded Publication
- Tuesday, 20th of October - Working towards a complete listing of University research publications
- Wednesday, 21st of October - Exponents of the 'mediated' deposit model
- Thursday, 22nd of October - Champions of the 'proxy' deposit model
- Friday, 23rd of October - Blazing the trail for open access deposit
Enlighten's Growth
Since Enlighten was launched (initially as the Glasgow ePrints Service) in February 2004, its growth has been steady and consistent but during 2009 with the support of staff across the University, it has been accelerating rapidly.
