Economic and Social Research Council: how to comply
If you are the PI on a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council first check to see if your publication is covered by the policy via the summary of policies. If so you should go through the relevant steps in this list before you submit an article to a journal. If you need help with finding any of the information below University repository staff can help you – e-mail then at deposit@lib.gla.ac.uk.
- Check if the publisher will permit you to deposit your
own final version
of your article in the
ESRC awards and outputs repository (the
SHEPA-RoMEO database of publisher
policies or repository staff in the University Library can help you
establish this).
- If this is permitted, follow the instructions available at
http://www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk/ESRCInfoCentre/help/guide/awards.aspx. Alternatively, repository staff in
the University Library may be able to deposit the paper on your behalf. Contact them at
deposit@lib.gla.ac.uk if you want to choose this option.
- If you are not permitted to deposit your own final version of your paper
in the ESRC rights and awards repository check if the publisher offers a paid open access option (e.g.
Blackwell
Online Open,
Springer Open Choice,
Elsevier Agreement). However, note that ESRC does not currently provide
funds to cover OA publication charges. Further information on
payment of publication fees is available from the Research Information
Network.
- If a paid OA option is available, check that this will permit you to
deposit in the ESRC rights and awards database. If this is permitted, follow the
instructions in point 2 above.
- If the publisher does not permit you to deposit your own final version of your article in the ESRC awards and outputs repository and does not have a paid OA option, contact ESRC or consider publishing in another journal.
