If you are the PI on a project funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign or the British Heart Foundation you should go through the relevant steps in this list before you submit an article to a journal. If you need help with finding any of the information below University repository staff can help you – e-mail then at deposit@lib.gla.ac.uk.
- Check if the publisher will permit you to deposit your own final version
of your article in UK PubMed Central (the
SHEPA-RoMEO database of publisher
policies or repository staff in the University Library can help you
establish this).
- If this is permitted, go to
https://ukmss.mimas.ac.uk/ once your paper has been published to deposit
your paper in UKPMC. Note that some publishers require an embargo period
before papers may be deposited in UKPMC. Information
on the deposit process is available. Alternatively, repository staff in
the University Library can deposit the paper on your behalf. Contact them at
deposit@lib.gla.ac.uk if you want to choose this option.
- If you are not permitted to deposit your paper in UK Pubmed Central Check if the publisher offers a paid open access option (e.g.
Blackwell
Online Open,
Springer Open Choice,
Elsevier Agreement).
- If an OA option is available check how to claim the funds from
ARC and
BHF.
- Check if the publisher deposits papers in UK PubMed Central (UKPMC
) within six months of publication on your behalf as part of this OA option.
If so, you need do nothing further.
- If a paid OA option is available, but the publisher will not deposit in UK PubMed Central on your behalf, you need to check if you are permitted to deposit the publisher’s PDF version of your article in UKPMC yourself, and when you may do this. If this is permitted, follow the instructions in point 2 above.
