Ephemera Digitisation Project
This project provided digital access to a significant body of principally 19th century, Scottish printed ephemera, drawn from the extensive collection held at Glasgow University Library. Digital reformatting, while permitting fuller access, also assisted in the long-term preservation of these rare and fragile objects. The project was funded by SCRAN, under the RLIS initiative.
The topics touched on include home life and the cost of living, as exemplified from advertisements, bills, etc; entertainment; travel and communications; social issues; crime with particular emphasis on accounts of executions, hanging ballads, etc; health; education; trade and industry; agriculture; politics, and religion. Given the origins of the collection, many of the items chosen illuminate life in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, but material from other areas of Scotland and the United Kingdom is included.
